Mining Sector Supports National Carbon Price in Canada

Canadian Prime Minister and the 13 provincial and territorial heads of Canada have agreed to lay down a national climate strategy within six months, pressing the need for a national carbon price. However, there was no consensus on what that actually entails or whether Ottawa should set the minimum price. Some premiers, including Saskatchewan’s Brad Wall, rejected the idea of a broad-based carbon price, saying it would hurt the economy. The mining sector, the largest industrial sector in Canada, has endorsed this effort of the government with the largest mining companies laying down a series of principles.
