Niobium Attracting Miners and Steel Plants


Worldwide, steel plants and mines that provide raw materials to these plants got undervalued when commodity prices fell. But one metal – niobium- used to produce lighter and stronger steel and priced seven times higher than copper for every kilogram, is attracting a lot of attention. The prices of niobium averaged about $40 per kilogram last year compared to $5.49 per kilogram of copper on the London Metal Exchange.
